	In May 2018, we took a road trip to San Luis Obisbo and just happened to see this very new-looking 928 sitting on the Monterey Porsche lot. We got in, and Rachael’s first words were, “I love this car.” I had never driven a Porsche in my life, let alone a 928, and had only a vague understanding of how cars worked, but I know about beautiful things and have always considered the 928 one of the best-looking cars ever made.
So, without any documentation or a pre-purchase inspection, I took the 58k miles on the odometer, and my gut feeling that this was a loved car as guidance and started to negotiate. (Turns out I was right when months later I uncovered the entire stack of receipts, manuals, and window sticker.) Now, two years later, we have three cars built in the ’80s, and I am learning about the insides of cars from some generous and knowledgeable people on, and more importantly, off the internet. Hands-on education with passionate people, kinda what life is all about.
This project attempts to bring more people into that reality by connecting beautifully preserved cars to enthusiastic potential buyers. We should all love what we drive.

	Manual Transmission Original Sahara Gold paint, one owner California car.AC and Heat work greatNo cracks in the dash or any other vinyl surfaces on the car.All lights inside and outside the car work perfectly, including the pop-ups.Title in hand, not salvage.Have the spoiler and it is in perfect condition, I will re-mount it for the sale if you desire.Car drives great, transmission feels good, engine pulls great, no codes are popping up. I had a surging idle issue that was giving me (a check engine and IACV code) which I finally figured out (adjusting TPS, burping coolant, one of those two things worked), now the car is running without issues. Two rust spots from living near the ocean, one at sunroof the other near driver door handle (photos below).New in the last two months :- Custom Fit Front and Rear Seat Covers (there is a pretty bad rip in the drivers side bolster all the other seats are intact but I don't like things to mis-match.)- Custom Fit Front and Rear Floor Mats- Spark Plugs and Wires (All NGK)- RainX front and rear wipers- Battery- Air Filter- Intake hoses for filter and throttle- Interior lights Bonus Items:- Working Throttle body and IACV- Shift knob- Haynes Manual- Window Motor- Knock Sensor- various other little things.I've also cleaned the shit out of the inside and outside of this car, including full on clay bar, buffing and polish with C2 Liquid Crystal.I’ve owned this car for 3 months but never registered it. I will just hand the title off to you, it needs to be smoged if stays in CA.

	In my world a viewable ad means something is “available”, please don’t ask.This is a genuine Saab 900 Turbo commemorative edition, number 132 of 325 coupes ever made (although only 314 have been confirmed). The most collectible Saab 900 out there! The title is clean and the car only had one owner for its entire life. I purchased it as a parts car but, upon discovering that it drove great, the title was clean, and the paint was not too shabby, I decided I would take it the spa and see if it can live on as an operational vehicle.I have the condition listed here as "fair" because the body panels are straight and surprisingly free of dents (except for the right front fender which is hella-jacked) but there are a few rust spots that will take some focused work to make right. This CE is a very fun, fast car to drive, remarkably more sporty feeling than our 1990 900 Turbo.Here is more info from Wikipedia:314 Commemorative Edition 900 Turbo 3-door Hatchback Coupés were made for the U.S. market in 1993. All the cars were painted solid black with a tan leather interior and had 5-speed manual transmissions. The horsepower was increased to 185 bhp (138 kW) by outfitting the cars with the "red box" APC controller, a 2.8-bar fuel pressure regulator (base turbo was 2.5 bar), and a distributor with enhanced vacuum advance. The cars rode on the SPG suspension. The interior was further embellished by a walnut dash facia and a leather gear knob and gaiter. The wheels were 15" directionals painted medium-gray metallic units with a polished lip. Each Commemorative Edition was shipped with a small brass plaque indicating its number in the series. The plaques were serialized to indicate its number out of 325. However, only 314 were actually built. In addition, 15 identically equipped cars were shipped to Canada, and were equipped with metric (kilometer) speedometer instruments.The clutch feels a little weird in this car. It grinds slightly going from 1-2 my guess is that the friction plate is worn and needs to be near fully released to engage. It’s drivable but a touch funky. It will likely need to be dealt with in the next few thousand miles... car feels good otherwise and sounds great. 	Rust-free 1990 Saab 900 Turbo

I am selling our lovely SAAB, it is a joy to drive and has many years of glorious Sweedish flying in its future. Our car "collection" has just grown too big to manage in the middle of San Francisco and I would rather see it taken over by another driver than stored by me in some distant garage. 

Body: The paint and body panels of this car are in excellent condition, I do think the hood would like a respray at some point, it's hard to see here but it has some slight imperfections that I believe are the result of a less than clean work area during a previous respray, otherwise, the paint is original and lovely. The body panels and frame are totally rust free. This car has been in inland California it's whole life and has never suffered salted roads or ocean-side living. The wheel wells do not have rust, the underside is quite clean (I know the photos aren't amazing but I tried to take some quick shots when I for a new muffler earlier this month). The front bumper has a little mar on the corner. This car is wired for fog lamps, has the switch and connection points under the bumper, I've tested them and they work.

Interior: quite nice, the leather is in good shape and the seats are incredibly comfortable (as you may know if you are a SAAB lover). The dash is cracked, see pictures. The carpets are very clean and unripped, the floor mats (seen in outside the car here) are not original but are custom cut and logo-d, they look great. The stereo is not original but has Bluetooth and works well. The interior lights work but the cluster light does not work. It did when we bought the car and I have the replacement parts. The headliner needs to be replaced, it's sagtastic. The sunroof does not leak!

Mechanical: As you can see from the service records, we've spent some money on this car. It drives straight and the turbo pulls nicely and sounds cool. It is not perfect however, it leaks a teeny bit of coolant from the expansion tank, not enough to demand additional refilling just a few drops overnight, I have a new expansion tank that will be included with the car. The distributor periodically drops a little oil on the heat shield of the turbo. I have a new distributor and cap but have not attempted to install it yet. I think the TPS might need to get replaced soon as the idle reves can drop a little low after acceleration. I have some bonus parts which I will throw in, including a steering rack from the previous owner.

We've owned this car for 14 months and put about 3500 miles on it. Upon receiving the car we took care of quite a bit of maintenance in addition to some recent work that had been done. Here is a list of date mileage and cost for what we have documentation for:

The interior looks new, and the car has no rust at all, literally.I have taken 205 high-resolution photos with a real camera; you can review and download at link above.It is a fully documented car with original window sticker and receipt.In the last 12months/2k miles, it's had a good deal of significant, stable, and professional work.Two weeks ago, the plan was to sell it for 14k on BaT. I decided to go for "one last drive" and blew the head gasket, 2 miles from my house, it has not been driven since then.I am scheduled to get the work done in a month and have decided to list it for 10k in the meantime. Essay:

This is not an ad where I attempt to persuade you to value the Mark III Supra, where I try to convince you of it's latent superiority to the models that preceded or followed its glorious production run. This is the ad where I share a perspective on its value, and you decide whether our tastes align. Old sports cars are like that: iconic points of reference that can stir nostalgia or suddenly seem fresh in light of what's followed by their release.

For quite a while, the MK3 was seen as the kind of car received in trade for a 24 pack of Sapporo, an iPod, and 300bucks. Years of this devaluation has nearly destroyed all remaining examples. Now, when seeing one of these un-manipulated, at original ride height, without a festoon of performance decals, one is struck by the sculpted, aggressive, yet understated, wedge Toyota created in the era before computer-aided design smoothed everything out. This is what happened to me 14 months ago when I bought this car.

I had no history with these cars and honestly had not thought about them with particular depth before seeing this example. It just spoke to me. I was turning forty, and it seemed like the right thing to do to fly down to LA, buy it, and drive it home. In-person the car was clearly rust free. The interior was insane; the pile of documents was impressive. There was some JDMification to undo and leaky AC, but aside from that, it was awesome.

On the way back, it drove fine, but the performance didn't do the aesthetics justice. What I didn't know at the time was that my 928 guru happened to have a previous life as an MK3 enthusiast. We talked about how to make the car feel like it looked, not turn it into some insane dyno-warrior, just give it the responsiveness it deserved. His advice: refresh the suspension and get a new downpipe.

I thought about it for a while, and in May 2019 this work was done:

(The shocks, sway, and downpipe were installed by me and said enthusiast at DIY or DIE in San Jose (original downpipe was saved.) The rack and tires by William at ABC auto in SF, he is amazing.)The car felt fantastic. Exactly as fun as I hoped it would be. Fast but manageable, incredible steering and cornering, comfortable: GT MAGIC. But not quite perfect. The hatch rattled a bit, and even though there was no rust in the car, I was nervous about water penetration. I ended up on a whole comfort/improvement trip and purchased these things:

The hatch gasket (new OEM) and the front lip (lightly used) were a coup, nearly impossible to find but completed the feeling of this being something close to a new car.

This project coincided with a bout of car collecting and selling that meant this lovely supra has been driven less than 2k miles since all this work was done. It was such an amazing vehicle, but I wasn't using it, so I decided to sell it. But before that, I thought I should take it out for one more spirited drive to Pacifica and back. And, wait for it, the head gasket blew. I let it cool and mostly coasted the last two miles to my house. That was two weeks ago and the car has not been driven since. Meaning that it has not been driven in an overheated state.

So, I've spent $5300 bucks on this car. As I said at the start, the asking price only makes sense if our tastes align; if essentially, I have made the same choices you would make, and therefore you can continue the journey. This Supra could be a show-car, it would be an incredible 2jz swap, or it could be a gentlemanly cruiser. &#38;nbsp;I have free parking and no outside pressure to sell this car; if we don't agree on value, you don't need to tell me about it. I can have the vehicle towed within 15 miles to you or "bring a trailer." I have shipped a number of cars across the country, I am comfortable doing so with this one as well.

	When preparing to sell a car, you develop an intimacy with its form, function, and logic that is hard to obtain through typical operation. A sign that your efforts to prepare the car are paying off is a sudden urge to keep it. But for me, this prep has just increased my existing affection; I love this car. 

What makes a car loveable, not just an object of desire, but a machine you want to commit to? Form, utility, and performance. 

Form: I bought this car 14 months ago. I was scrolling craigslist, had never even contemplated purchasing a Subaru, and certainly was not on the hunt for one, but even in the postage sized thumbnail, I was charmed by the proportions of this car. The short hood and extended back, the straight lines moving across the body. It was at once familiar and idiosyncratic, clearly built to be useful but with engineering parameters that allowed for a unique iteration on a standard form. On further inspection, the commitment to smoothness, a consistent fillet across the sheet metal and molded plastic was remarkable and beautiful. A near-perfect expression of enthusiasm for the new decade (the 90's), somehow subtle and radical at once. A utility vehicle in Tomorrowland.

Seeing the car in person confirmed my formal impressions, but it was the tactile engagement with the interior that sold me—just a beautiful golden tan cocoon. I understand there is some sort of negative sentiment towards beige, but it starts to feel like a space manufactured to chill you out when it moves towards a warmer hue. Also, the condition; holy shit! 

The test drive was... fine. The suspension was tired, and there were some sounds, the tires were old, it wasn't bad enough to break the spell. I was already falling in love. 

Utility: Subaru's are, of course, known for their functional prowess, but they have become rather disgustingly festooned folded and formed panelized nightmares in the last 20 years. The magic of this car was that something so elegant and low-key could also perform like a truck with an unbelievably compact footprint. The outside shell to interior volume ratio on this car is unmatched. As an urban everything-car, it is perfect. 

Performance: This one can be tricky. For the "Furious" crowd, this is an objective trait measured by numbers that index directly to desirability. But for most, the pleasure of driving newer cars has been neutered by their increase in power, as a series of automated processes are continually attempting to trim and limit the delivery of that power to keep the driver from killing themself. The experience of manually controlling the handling, gearing, and power delivery of a mid-power 90's wagon allows one to understand and enjoy "performance" instead of just reading about it at the dealership before purchasing a car. This car is fun to drive. 

In my 14 months / 2500 miles of owning this car, I have invested ~$6k in recreating the experience of buying it new-off-the-lot. I wanted to understand the designed intent of the car and enjoy it for precisely what it was intended to be: an AWD expression of practical luxury, an Accord killer. This meant new struts, control arms, bushings, brakes, clutch, timing belt, water pump, tires, shifter bushings, 4 speakers etc... the goal was to create the experience of a new car for myself but also for my wife who wasn't entirely convinced that this car was "it." And, here's the bad news: she never was. 

And so, here I am selling this rather incredible car. It's ok. We have other rad-mobiles and will likely get a Vanagon or a Delica. Sometimes you need to pass on the passion and let others enjoy the benefits of your affection. 

There are no other Legacy wagons like this for sale. It has been garaged for its entire life, at home and at work. The paint is perfect aside from a few very small bumper marks. I clay-bared it and polished it for the sale, it is beautiful but honestly, it was before that too; it's just been immensely well taken care of. This car is not a "platform" for a "project," and it's not priced as such. The price will only make sense if your interest is in continued preservation, maintenance, and, most importantly, use. 

The mileage is a testament to the durability of craftsmanship and materials that Subaru used in the production of this car. Obviously, it looks like it has a tenth of the mileage, has lived its entire life in non-coastal northern California. It is literally, 100%, no caveats, absolutely rust free and therefore an absolute joy to work on.

Context

Driving is coming to an end. It's inevitable, probably not happening as soon as the world's second-least-helpful twitterer says it is, but it will happen. This period we are in now is perhaps the least enjoyable time for driving in the last century. When a car can almost pilot itself, it gives the driver a sense of false security and real distraction. Driving becomes akin to eating popcorn while watching Succession. You'll only remember you’re doing it when you start choking. 

Inherent in this move toward automation is an unspoken belief that driving is something to be avoided, and cars should be somewhere between a washing machine and an iPhone: a necessary utility that can provide multimedia content effortlessly. 

Cars of the late '80s to the mid-'00s represent a radically different philosophy. One that assumes driving is an experience worth pursuing and something that most people can enjoy. The technology of sports cars had democratized to the point where an economy coupe could have four-wheel disk brakes, fuel injection, complicated multi-link suspension, and an aluminum engine block. It could be performance-oriented, reliable, and still gloriously analog. 

The apotheosis of this proletarian performance is undoubtedly the CRX Si. Its cult following has never faltered; years after production, these cars are still seen as a worthy platform with "tuner" parts available and plentiful. But, ironically, this continued engagement with the model has left very few unmodified examples intact.

For me, this car is not about nostalgia. It's not about revisiting some halcyon time when "America was great," and Star Wars was a trilogy. I did not purchase it and then restore its aesthetic and handling characteristics so that I could imagine myself to be 16 again (assuming I bought the car 8-years-used in 1996). My goal with this car, and all my cars, is to have the unique experience the designers and engineers imagined. To rediscover the balance of utility and performance they envisioned. To drive this car.

When a musician chooses to play an electric guitar instead of a sequencer, they aren't participating in some retrograde fetish. They are looking for a physical connection to music that demands a multisensory input/output method of production. They don't just want to make music; they want to play the guitar.

I don't believe there has been, or will be, a car that so perfectly balances a go-cart like directness with reliable technology in a magically voluminous package with such a tiny footprint. The CRX is the ultimate car for the childless, urban dweller. Car and Driver liked to call it the "poor man's Ferrari," but no matter your class-status, it's nice to drive a fast little car without the nagging anxiety of imminent collapse.

The flip-side of the car's simplicity is the ease and satisfaction of working on it. Despite its status as a former vehicle of Peter Cunningham, it had a good deal of "deferred maintenance." I replaced or refurbished (for the pieces no longer available) every element of the suspension and brakes. Even though the car has no body rust, the bolts, who still sat in their original position, had become quite oxidized. Now that they have been replaced or removed, cleaned, and wire-brushed, all future engagements with the suspension should provide frustration-free afternoons of haptic pleasure. 

Price

Perceived monetary value reflects a shared set of aesthetic and performance values; the price only makes sense if the previous owner's actions feel precisely like what you would have done to the car. The two of you must be in a continuum of understanding and action: 

Peter Cunningham (RealTime Racing) found a beautiful example and kept the outside nice in his museum. The next buyer paid for an extensive detail of the engine bay and a full refresh of belts, valve cover, water pump. I then took it a step further and restored the driving dynamics with a new clutch, brakes, suspension, and a general quieting of all rattles. 

For many people, the CRX is a "platform," Therefore, this price is confusing as they can only see a stock CRX as a starting point. But the right buyer will see this car moving very close to a shimmering finish line. In other words, I have priced this at what I would pay for it.

This car might be purchased by a collector, stored away, and barely driven again. If they pay full price; who am I to argue? However, this car has been restored for driving. We drove it multiple times a week: got groceries in it, took our kid around in it, enjoyed it. I hope the next steward of this unique experience-giver does the same. 

Why am I selling it? I have limited space and collect experiences, not cars. It's time to have a new one.
